Galatians 1:6-7 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
Variance is a common practice among many religious institutions, a practice hard to discern if we are not watchful as Christians. The sad thing about this type of deception is that it is leading many into darkness from which there is no return should we fall all the way. Those who are in the practice of variance may not even know they are behaving in such a manner because of its subtlety, it is written, 2 Timothy 3:5-7 “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
Those who have fallen into this sort of practice are they who after coming to the truth turn to their own teaching dividing the word of God to satisfy their own fleshly desires. They teach a doctrine that appeals to the flesh rather than obedience to the truth of God words. What were some of the teachings of the Nicolaitans, Paul outlined their herises in his letters, things such as sedition, which is division, fornication, adultery, and many more works of the flesh which he outlined in the book of Galatians.
Paul at one point rebuked Peter for causing sedition among the brethren due to his behavior. Paul addressed this issue when he wrote, ” But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision. And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.”Galatians 2:11-13.
The issues over which the church was divided was whether one should be circumcised or not, but Peter knowing the grace of God ate with the Gentiles when the Jews who hold such belief in the circumcision were away, but once they were back in among the brethren he would keep away from the Gentiles creating division within the church. Paul addressed this issue which was contrary to the message of Jesus which was the message of unity among the brethren. Perversion of the gospel is a troubling issue among churches today, an issue we need to rebuke, reprove, and shun.
There are so many false teachings within the church walls today people are confused not knowing which way to go. Jesus gives this warning, ” Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”Matthew 7:21-23. This pronounced judgement will come about due to the perversion of the truth and message of Christ. It will be a sad day for many who had believed they were doing Gods’ will while to the contrary they were working against his love.
It is important for us to examine the scripture as individuals, ensuring we are obeying the word of God and not that of man. The scripture told us we are, “Born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”John 1:13. It is our responsibility to defend the scripture from corruption as we watch and pray each and every day. Let no man deceive you said the Lord, a warning and message we should heed. For unless we watch and pray we likewise may fall to the deceitful doctrine of men.
Ephesians 5:6-7 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comes the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
