“And the men of Babylon made Succothbenoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. (2 Kings 17:30-31 KJV)
For what reason did God drove out the people who once dwelt in the land called Canaan, now Palestine for what reason did he gave the command to Israel to destroy the people of Canaan leaving not even a child on the breast. Was it not for their sins against God, and if it was for their sins, what was the Canaanites doing to have caused God to command their utter destruction.
From what we have come to understand, God drove those nations out of Canaan because of their idolatry. The people of the land were submerged in the art of witchcraft, and demon worship; they did not turn from their sins, but as they grew more and more desperate they began to offer their children as a sacrifice to the gods of stone and wood through whom they worship demons. For these acts of idolatry God was angry with the nations, and turning his face away from their cry for help he sent forth his army to destroy them from the earth.
Idol worship is not simply the bowing of the knees to a wooden image, it can lead to practices of unimaginable evil. Because the gods of wood and stone can provide no hope or answer the cries of those bowing to them, the human mind filled with delusions can cause him or her to act wildly and without conscience. At this point in a human life he is beyond recovery, he has completely lost his way, and once the mind is dead to the voice of reason being void of truth the end to such person or nation is utter destruction. It was for this reason God sent the destroyer into the land to utterly cut down those nations leaving none to continue their blood line.
“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;” (Romans 1:28 KJV)
Because those nations had forgotten the Lord, they became vile in their way, they practice those things which were in direct rebellion against God’s will for humanity. They committed murder, they steal, and live their lives based off the reading of the stars, and superstitions rather than depending on the true God of creation. Although the heavens declared God’s power and might day after day, and revealed his hands night after night the nations before us chose to reject the evidence of God to serve the works of their hands. As a result of their rejection of God, judgment came upon them, the word was spoken and death became their lot.
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs 1:7 KJV)
