Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
One of the things the Lord have asked of us is for us to trust in him, and the way to build that confidence in God is to lean on his promises. We know we can trust God because of what he has done for us through his son Jesus Christ; and we know we can trust in his word because of what we saw demonstrated in the life of Jesus Christ.
As we look at Psalm 91, we will find the truth of God’s word that was reflected through the life of Jesus. A truth showing Jesus being the Son of God was living according to what was written in the scripture. When the scripture speak of dwelling under the shelter of the Almighty, and abiding under the shadow of God, it is possible for us to witness God’s faithfulness to carry out his word in our lives through Jesus Christ.
While Jesus was with us, he dwelt under the shelter of the Almighty, he dwelt under the word of God, and while he was with us, he was under the shadow of the Almighty. Take notice how no arm came to Jesus until it was time for him to be crucified; and take notice of how many times the mob tried to destroy him but failed.
Jesus abiding under the shelter of God prospered in the way, he did not fall sick, nor did any pestilence came upon his life. He was not admitted to any human illness, but rather brings healing to those he visited. These promises set forth in the scripture is ours to enjoy, and having the witness we now see through the life of Jesus Christ, we are to offer to God the trust he is requesting of us.
The promise of God revealed to us declares we shall not be afraid, the word declares Psalm 91:5-6 “You will not fear the terror of night, or the arrow that flies by day, or the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, or the plague that destroys at midday”. And if we were to consider the life of Jesus Christ, we will take note that he was not overcome by any of those things that befalls the human.
Although he was human in nature, Jesus being God lived as a man according to the written word, and living by the written word demonstrated his faithfulness to the world. As his people, we now know that we are able to do all things through Jesus Christ as it is written, and what God has asked of us is possible for us to deliver to him, because he has given us his word and will remain faithful to his promises.
