Psalms 41:1 (KJV) To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considers the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. 2 The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
Having the help of the Lord and having his assurance in times of trouble is important in the life of any believing Christian. But as with anything there are principles we need to follow in-order to activate those promises we need in our lives.
Seeking success and achieving that success is a life time goal of many people, but the way we go about achieving our goals is more worldly than according to the will of God. Success on a global level is measure not according to the will of God, but rather according to how much wealth one person or country has; yet in those countries and in the lives of those individual wealthy persons are sick and dying people who can be helped.
In the will of God wealth is not measured according to how much a person has, but how much a person gives to help his neighbor. The net result of a country or person helping his poor neighbor is support from God who will truly add the increase to his efforts in his job profession. When we invest our time in anything good God will add the increase because of our faithfulness to our neighbor, when we plan God will cause our plans to prosper because of our faithfulness to our neighbor, and when our enemies are up against us God will deliver us from their plans.
The promise of God is sure to everyone who discovers them; but are granted to those who keep his word and follow his instructions. Simply saying that we believe in God will not bring us into the promise of success, and prosperity. We say to those around us, “Believe in God and he will bring his promises to pass”. Yes God will bring his word to pass and will keep his promises, but only to those who keep his instructions.
According to his word, God will deliver us in times of trouble. Trouble is a plague in the world and although we are Christians possessing the promises of God, as humans we are exposed to the troubles that plagues the world, but because we have walked in the will of God obeying his instructions, God will deliver us in times of trouble.
Another promise of God for those of us who will walk according to his word is ” The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth.” In times of trouble the Lord will preserve our lives on earth, he will keep us alive providing for all our needs. He will cause his blessing to overtake us and we will be a blessing in the earth. But how do we enter into this promise and relationship with God, we enter this relationship not through our human efforts or nature, but rather through obedience considering the needs of the poor, fatherless, and the widowed.
If we will consider the poor and the blessing of the Lord that comes along with obedience in caring for the needs of the destitute person, the word of God declares, ” Psalms 41:3 (KJV) The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness. In short, when we fall to illness or in distress God will provide comfort, he has become our redeemer.
