For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6-7 KJV)
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, are words spoken by Isaiah the prophet of God concerning the person of God who was to come into world. His name would be called Immanuel at his birth, which means God with us. His name was Jesus meaning salvation, for he was the provision of God who was to offer his body as a living sacrifice in fulfillment of God’s mission to save his people from their sins.
Born of a virgin Jesus was the fulfillment of the word of God spoken by Isaiah, and being rejected by the people due to the council of the governments of his time, Jesus fulfilled the words of God spoken by Isaiah. He was born into a world that rejected him, a world whose government wanted nothing to do with him, and being rejected he was put to death. In the eyes of the world they had the victory, but little did they know his death was the victory of his people.
The mission of Jesus was to save his people from their sins, he was sent into the world to be a light unto it, to preach the coming kingdom of God, and to draw those who were the people of God unto himself. Through the preaching of the gospel he break the chains of bondage, fulfilled the promise of God, and in his death he release those who were under bondage. Those receiving him as their Lord are identified as the children of God, and those who has rejected him are cast aside as a branch.
The next phase of his mission is now in process and soon to be revealed, which is the re-establishment of his kingdom on earth in fulfillment of his promise to David. Born as the son of David from the lineage of David, God through Jesus has demonstrated his faithfulness, and his willingness to keep his word no matter the weakness of men.
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” we have received the perfect sacrifice, “and the government shall be upon his shoulder” He was rejected by the world, “his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” and in fulfillment of these spoken words he has shown us his goodness, gave us his counsel, he was God in the flesh, and became our father who has brought peace to our lives through his death and resurrection.
Every step of the way Jesus was walking according to the mission of God to save his people from the power of sin. While we were yet sinners he gave his life for us, it was the mission he was sent to accomplish, he was successful, he went not to the left nor to the right, but kept the word of God as written demonstrating God’s faithfulness and willingness to deliver us.
