We all know who John called the Baptist was, the cousin of Jesus, the messenger sent before Christ, but do you know what his message was all about. What I have from the history of humanity is the story of mankind seeking an immortal King, one who would some day redeem their lives. As time goes by many would lose faith, they turn to the worship of fallen angels who could provide no benefit. Men would fight for the throne trying to dominate one nation after the other. Our history is plagued with wars unending due to the darkness covering the earth.
The ancient man saw their kings as saviors paying homage to men of flesh they worship their passing kings as god. Men quickly turned to idol worshiping including Israel losing patient turning away from God‘s truth. Adam told his sons that one day God would send a savior in the world to deliver mankind from his transgressions. God would send a son born of a woman who would crush the head or government of the wicked one who now rules over the world. Searching for this reality men on account of deception has turned to mortal men for worship. Then when they realize that their human king could not save them they over throw or fight to become the next ruler.
Kings came to power and with stories filled with lies they promote they birth as divine. They were taking to themselves the story of Adam claiming to be the one God had sent to be the divine ruler and deliverer. Their is a story were behind every new King . Alexander believing he was the son of God swept through the East conquering nations dying at a young age.
But in due time John would come on the scene, a messenger of God announcing the coming of the true Messiah who would rule over the entire world, the Son of the woman who would crush the head of the serpent. He John came to confirm God’s promise and the story of Adam to a world that was at one time looking for the true King. Many would not believe him on account of the pass. So many had come before him failing to fulfill the promise. The world was still in darkness, death, and sickness was every where, but in Matthew chapter four Jesus demonstrated His power as the Son of God bringing light and rest to those living in the land of Zebulun.
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”f
Who was John? He was the announcer, a trumpet blower, and an ambassador of Jesus who will in the kingdom continue in his role as an announcer of the King. Each of us have our purpose and are called in the kingdom of our Father and Lord. Who was Jesus He was the true King, our human and eternal King, our God, the Seed of the woman our redeemer. He came in the flesh, died on the cross, but unlike those who went before Him he rose again. The resurrection was God’s confirmation of the truth John proclaimed about Jesus and the truth Jesus spoke of himself. Amen.
21They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
He answered, “No.”
22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’
