The law and Its rights

Christ in Gethsemane (Christus in Gethsemane),...

Matthew 5:17-20 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

I have been thinking about this verse for some time, and after praying over the scripture something came over me, and finally I realize what was being said here, and as a result my prayer life has changed greatly. I now see myself in a new light, not through the eyes of the world, but through the eyes of the kingdom of God. I am not merely human, I am as the scripture declared, a Child of God.

Psalm 1:1-5 are verses of the Bible we read along with Matthew 5:17-20, but while reading these verses we often time missed something very imparting. While these verse may call for debate amount Christians, the main purpose and point has always been overlooked. we often miss the power of these verses, worry too much about the law. It was clear, Jesus said He came not to do away with the law, but to fulfill the; therefore, they are valid and must be honored.

But the amazing about the law, is what he said about the law, ” Heaven and earth will pass away, but not one point of his word of law”. This is very important, and the reason is clear, if we understand what Jesus was saying here we would all jump for joy. Jesus in saying what he did concerning his word, was making the announcement that if we should discover his will and plan we can execute them.

Mary and JesusTake notice how every move of Jesus was a fulfillment of what was spoken from the beginning, “Matthew 1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,” Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Isaiah 7:14  Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Jesus was the fulfillment of God’s word, and as his children we can become the embodiment of his word executing his will as we go. But in order to walk in the power of God as Jesus did, we must know the law and instructions of God.

When Joseph went to Egypt with Mary and Jesus, it was in fulfillment of the scripture,” Matthew 2:14-15 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son”. Hosea 11:1  When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

Every move and every step was a fulfillment of God’s word. Therefore, when Jesus said not one word shall depart from the law until all is fulfilled, he meant it. He will fulfill every word, and have revealed to us that there is in the word of God a treasure of power, and promise for us to take advantage of. Never walk in defeat again, God has given us the power we need to accomplish his will. His word is law.

Luke 10:18-22 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knows who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

Lord help us to put your word to practice each day of our lives that we might walk in the power of your glory as son of the kingdom. Amen.
