The Palestinians claim

The Palestinians claim Israel does not have the legal right to settle on the land, and for many years now have been fighting to have the Jewish state removed from the region. But if we were to look at the history of Israel and Palestine, it would be clear to all that the people called the Palestinians were not a people until recently.

There was never a Palestine, the land was originally called Canaan, a tribe of people who was at some time in history scattered all over the land. The people were an ally of Egypt, a separate nation known for their idol worship. They were a people well known by the ancient writers of those times, a people singled out for judgment on account of their acts of idolatry.
When God called Abraham away from his own country, he sent Abraham to the land of Canaan, and written before the Quran the Bible is clear on the matter, Noah had taken away the portion he had intended for Canaan, and gave it to Shem, and Japheth prophesying Canaan would serve Shem and his brother Japheth.

But first take notice that Shem was given the scepter of rule, and Canaan was to be his servant. Japheth was given a portion with Shem, but not the kingship, but an opportunity to dwell with Shem in the kingdom, and to prosper with Him. It is from this point we have the calling of Abraham, and God fulfilling the words of Noah, granting Shem the land of Canaan.

Genesis 9:24-29 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

If were to trace the linage of Shem, we would end up at Abraham, and if we were to trace the lineage of Abraham, we would end up at Isaac, and if we would trace the lineage of Isaac we would end up at Jacob, and if we trace the line of Jacob we would have the nation of Israel. But where is Israel’s legal right to the land? Israel legal right and claim to the land begins with Abraham, and the many land claims he had, and a purchase he made Hebron. Abraham after the death of his wife Sarah purchased a field and cave from the hand of Ephron. Abraham paid the full cost of the land in the amount of “four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant”.

Isaac after Abraham would also made land purchases, expanding the borders of his country, and so upon the return of Israel to the land of Canaan as they leave Egypt, they had the right to claim what was theirs. Palestine was not a country, not a people, and today they have no claim to the area of land they now occupy.

Genesis 23:15-20 My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead. And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.

And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city. And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan. And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.

  1. Interesting. I have always thought of covenant, but never that the Patriarchs actually paid money for some of the land. {Palestine is, of course, a name based on the Philistine people who dominated the area of Canaan along the seacoast, especially}.
