The world belongs to those who claim it, and those desiring it will work all their lives toward achieving the things of the world. But what is the world and the achievements thereof? According to the language of the Bible, it is the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of this life. Nothing is wrong with having a full time job, earning a living or becoming wealthy as a result of a talent or gift, but to take pleasure in pursuing the things the people of sin go after is running after the wind.
God indeed created the earth and all that is; however, it was to serve a more lasting purpose; a purpose to bring glory to His kingdom, and as a place where the human family may live and enjoy His provisions. However, as time went by, and the devil is given a foothold in the land, he turned the hearts of men from God. The result was, selfishness, uncleanness, and the quest for power was born.
Man turning from God turned to the devil, and serving the devil, they unknowingly seek to bring about his kingdom of terror and rebellion. The devil proclaimed, ” “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High”. Isaiah 14:13-14}
What the world does not realize, is that the devil has been defeated, a message we share as Christians. And unless they take a stand and turn back from their sins, they will share is his end and demise. “Yet thou shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms.” Isaiah 14:15-16}
The earth is a beautiful place, the creation of God, but what we called the world is evil, full of lust, selfishness, hate, and pride. And those who has taken hold of the things of this life, are proud, and boastful people, trapped in their sins and the power of death.
1 John 2:15-16 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Remember, the things of the world are not the good things of life, the moral and upright things, they are; however, things that cause men to cheat, kill, and commit things shameful to speak of.
“I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days and at his end shall be a fool”. Jeremiah 17:10-11}
