Signs and Symbols – A Table in the Desert # 7

imagesCAQBBJDCExodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Due to the fall of humanity Judgment came upon the world, and no one is safe from this universal judgment as we are all descendants of Adam the first man created in the image of God, and a man who rebelled against the will of God. And thrown out of the kingdom, he was sentenced to death; and as his children born in his house, we are counted as cursed children falling under the curse and judgment of death that was passed unto Adam our ancestor. However, God had promised to deliver him from this judgment, God declaring on behalf of man grace and mercy; however, for the enemy there would be no recall of judgment, he will remain under the curse forever.

In the days of Moses God chose to demonstrate His hand of grace, He instituted the Passover, and in doing so provided a shadow of covering, the blood of an unblemished lamb that he might through the shadow of things forgive the sins of His people. Through this shadow, the shadow of the Passover, which is a pointer to the Day of the Lord, God would make way for His people.

We are in a world under judgment, but by the grace of God, we are preserved from what we deserve. If it was not for the words spoken, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shall bruise his heel” Genesis 3:15} we would have all fallen asleep, falling into an everlasting darkness. However, because of what Jesus Christ had promised Adam, humanity was preserved, and a gate of grace was open to us all.

In the land of Egypt, God would demonstrate this reality; He called Israel to a feast, in the midst of the shadow of death, and the presence of their enemies, God appropriate a sacrifice through  and by which He might provide a cover for His people. Those found under the shadow of this blood sacrifice, was preserved, from the agent of death passing through the land.

The outpouring of God’s judgment was upon the whole world, including Israel, but because they had obeyed His voice, and sacrificing a lamb without blemish the agent of death passed over their homes without harm.  The judgment was upon the whole world, and even now, but because of the blood, Israel was saved from the outpouring of God’s wrath upon the nation.

imagesCAKF8QJVHow will God preserve His people in theses last days, you may ask, He will and have provided for each of us a covering, the blood of His son Jesus Christ. For Israel the blood of the lamb, which was the shadow of the blood of Christ, was the covering Israel needed, and so God poured out His wrath upon Egypt, the land was smitten with death, but only the righteous and his house was saved.

It makes me wonder about the Psalm of David, and what he saw or experienced to have wrote, Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou has prepared a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou has anointed my head with oil; my cup runs over”. Psalms 23:4-5}. It might just be that he might have recalled the days of his ancestors; and what God had done for them.

A table was prepared in the presence of their enemies; they were sitting in the shadows of death, but no harm came to their dwelling. And in the midst of it all, God showed them kindness, His goodness, and His mercy was with them along their journey, out of the land of Egypt. Therefore, the Passover is a day the nation was instructed to remember; and David if I am not wrong, may have recalled this day leading to him praying Psalm 23.

Exodus 12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever.
