“And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And she again bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground”. Genesis 4:1-2}
Now that death has become the result and reality for humanity, there was a need for humanity to be delivered from its power, and having the promise of God, that the Seed of the woman would appear in human form, and that he might redeem the earth, there was a need for Adam to acquire his first son.
It was the outlook of the nations after the generation of Adam, it was an expectation, and giving birth to her first child, a boy, Eve looked at the sign and called the name of the child Cain, meaning acquired.
In her heart she had acquired the promise of God, and filled with joy she rejoiced over him, for in her view he was the Messiah‘s promise. However, if Eve were to have given birth to a girl child, it would have been a disappointment, for the promise had made mention of a Seed, a male figure who was to be the redeemer. The Seed to come was a sacrifice, whose blood would be the payment and cost for sins.
“And the LORD God said unto the serpent, because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life: And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel”. Genesis 3:14-15}
Among those receiving the just penalty for what they have done, Satan was the only one cursed. For him there is no hope of redemption, he was sent away into the dungeons, forever sealed up in darkness, as hell was created on account of his transgression. Psalm1:4-6}
Adam and his wife had not escaped the judgment, but for them provision was made, and a way of escape. Eve would give birth in pain, Adam would till the ground, and death would be the final stage of their experience. However, after the experience of death they would fly away into the presence of God on account of the blood that was shed on their behalf.
The scene of Genesis chapter three is a complete and full picture of the judgment that is to come on the world and the provision God has made, for His people to escape the penalty of death.
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, ‘Where are you? And he said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself”. Genesis 3:7-10}
Why were they afraid? Their eye were opened, and as it is with us this day, who knowing we are in danger of judgment, and in need of redemption, and should we fail to accept this truth, calling out to the savor; we will like Adam and his wife hide at the appearance of the Christ on account of guilt.
